Turn to 1 Thessalonians chapter 4; 1 Thessalonians chapter 4. No kingdom on earth ruled by Christ before He gets here, and no kingdom on earth ruled by Christ after He gets here. Premillennialism, in Christian eschatology, is the belief that Jesus will physically return to the Earth (the Second Coming) before the Millennium, heralding a literal thousand-year golden age of peace. Other early premillennialists included Pseudo-Barnabas,[9] Papias,[10] Methodius, Lactantius,[11] Commodianus[12] Theophilus, Tertullian,[13] Melito,[14] Hippolytus of Rome, Victorinus of Pettau[15][16] and various Gnostics groups and the Montanists. He was emphatic that only premillennialism takes the prophecies concerning the future of Israel seriously. Historic, or Classic, Premillennialism is distinctively non-dispensational. Michael Servetus taught a chiliastic view, though he was denounced by the Reformers as a heretic and executed in Geneva under Calvin's authority. From this point on he dedicated much of his energy to ridding the church of this belief. [21] Eusebius also had low regard for the chiliast, Papias, and he let it be known that in his opinion Papias was "a man of small mental capacity" because he had taken the Apocalypse literally.[22]. All right. Now, if you want to get the future right, youve got to get Israel right, and youve got to get Gods sovereign electing purpose right. Israel crucifies the Messiah, thats it. Well, we now come to the doctrines that relate to the end times. If you want to understand what the Bible says about the future, get these two things right: the sovereignty of God in election, and the promises of that sovereign, electing God to those people to whom He has elected - His redeemed church and Israel. Thats for people who dont know this; that the way history ends, is with Jesus coming and taking us away. Now, here comes the real irony; this is the real irony. Some people want to turn it into ages - theres nothing in there that does that; theres nothing in the text itself that does that. . And theres the main verb in the sentence are in varying degrees of disinterest in applying their skills to the end of the story, and rather, content to be in happy if not playful disagreement in regard to the vast biblical data on eschatology, as if the end doesnt matter much - period. And I ask the question: are we supposed to be comfortable with the notion that the hard and fast and true principles of Bible interpretation have to be set aside in prophetic texts? This up to now has been more like a lecture, but turn to Revelation chapter 1, and just look at verse 3 for a moment. Donald Bloesch in his book The Last Things writes that: "Amillennialists as well as some postmillennialists adhere to the theory of progressive parallelism when dealing with the book of Revelation. There are over two thousand references to Israel in Scripture; not one of them means anything but Israel. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17), which, along with the appearance of the Antichrist, marks the beginning of the seven-year great tribulation on earth.
